Zinc and Selenium Improve Thyroid Function in Obese, Hypothyroid Women

In this 12-week study of 68 obese female adults with hypothyroidism, those who supplemented with zinc or a zinc-selenium combination had a significant improvement in thyroid hormones (free T3 and T4); however, additional tests are needed to determine if  a combination of selenium-zinc or zinc alone are effective in preventing thyroid dysfunction. Rapeseed/Canola Oil Improves Liver Health and Inflammation Levels in Obese Men

Of the 18 moderately obese participants in this study, those who took 50 grams of rape seed/canola oil per day for 4 weeks saw significant improvements in blood sugar control and inflammation. Canola oil significantly increased insulin (24.5%) as well as significantly reduced omega 6/omega 3 ratios by 15.3% and  increased  omega 3 blood levels by 16.1%. (more…)
