Vitamin D May Benefit Women With Fibromyalgia

Written by Greg Arnold, DC, CSCS. Study participants with fibromyalgia had  statistically significant lower levels of vitamin D and decreased bone density compared to control the control group. Those with vitamin D levels of 20 nanograms/mL or less also had significantly impaired short memory, mood and sleep disturbances, restless leg syndrome and rapid heart beat compared to those with vitamin D levels above 20 nanograms/mL.

Amino Acid May Benefit Physical Performance in Elderly Women

Thirty-two elderly women, who supplemented with beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyric acid (HMP) and participated in aerobic resistance exercises for 8 weeks, had a significant 1.5% improvement in a 6-minute walking test, a 31.3% hand grip endurance test and a 10.9% leg extension and strength test when compared to the placebo group.

Lavender May Benefit Mental Health for Women During Pregnancy

Women who used either a combination of lavender cream and footbath or lavender cream alone for 8 weeks, experienced a significant improvement in anxiety and stress; however, the greatest improvement was seen in depression, which decreased by 62.2% in the lavender and foot bath group and 40.9% in the lavender group when compared to the placebo group.  (more…)
