A research study showed that participants with the highest blood levels of lutein and zeaxanthin had 42% and 41% lower risk of cataracts compared to those with the lowest levels. Factors that increase the risk of cataracts include smoking, sunlight exposure, diabetes, aging, and some pharmaceuticals. (more…)
