Efficacy of Bifidobacterium Longum and Lactobacillus Acidophilus in Treatment of Rotavirus Infection in Infants

Of the 57 hospitalized infants with retrovirus infection, those who were treated with a probiotic formula containing Bifidobacterium longum BORI and Lactobacillus acidophilus had significantly improved symptoms compared to those in the placebo group who were treated with a probiotics-free skim milk powder. Probiotic Supplement Benefits Preterm Infant Health

A 2016 study demonstrated that of the 10,890 infants, those who were given a combination of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium infantis had a significant 52 % reduced risk of developing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC); a 49% reduced risk of death after contacting NEC and an 11% reduced risk of blood stream infections compared to preterm infants who did not receive probiotics.   (more…)
