Lung disease is any disease or disorder that occurs in the lungs or that causes the lungs to not work properly. There are three main types of lung disease:
- Airway diseases — asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis
- Lung tissue diseases — pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis
- Lung circulation diseases — are caused by clotting, scarring, or inflammation of the blood vessels and may also affect heart function.
Lung disease is America’s number three killer responsible for one in six deaths. Lung disease is not only a killer as more than 35 million Americans are now living with a chronic lung disease.
