The liver is a large glandular organ that weighs an average of 3lbs and sits on the right side of your stomach. Think of it as a filtering system; removing harmful material from the bloodstream and aiding in food digestion. As the body’s fat-burning organ, it converts food to essential body nutrients and functions as a reservoir for vitamins and minerals. In addition, the liver protects the immune system from functional overload and helps maintain hormonal balance. We can best support our livers by avoiding excessive consumption of tobacco, alcohol, acetaminophen, and white sugar. Finally, don’t forget to drink adequate fluids and exercise daily.
